What’s on the horizon for 2022 in the cannabis world? According to Leafly, who had some very accurate 2021 predictions come true, quite a bit can be expected for this year — here are a few highlights.
First, when it comes to strains and products, Leafly expects extensions of savory, sweet, and minty trends. They also believe experts will unlock new aroma molecules that will allow for some serious expansions in that same area.
As for lifestyle, expect to see more celebrity lines. After launches from names like Jay-Z and Seth Rogen, more artists and actors are expected to jump into the market. Leafly also expects at least one new flashy, hot-spot lounge destination to open up. The more the merrier!
When it comes to legality, Leafly is super confident that 2022 is not going to be the year for interstate commerce to become legalized. I guess we’ll have to keep that on the wish list for 2023.
Meanwhile, down in the Lonestar State, Beto O’Rourke isn’t giving up. Well into his gubernatorial campaign, O’Rourke apparently received the loudest cheers of the day after speaking about his commitment to legalization. He even made the claim that legalization is something many people in Texas, regardless of party, can agree on. Currently, Texas has some of the harshest penalties for marijuana possession, which would mean O’Rourke winning his campaign and following through on this commitment could have some serious repercussions for Texas, its weed culture, and its commerce landscape.
With Malta becoming the first European country to legalize cannabis for personal use, the hope is that other countries will follow. According to Forbes, here’s which countries have a likely chance of being next:
Cannabis stocks have not done as well as expected as we still fight for federal legalization. On the bright side, cannabis stocks are more affordable now than ever. The Motley Fool breaks down which cannabis stocks you should get your hands on as the fight for federal reform continues in 2022.
MJBiz is home to MJBizCon, the cannabis industry’s largest and oldest tradeshow. They have now been acquired by a New York-based media company, Emerald X. Although both companies publicly suffered financially due to the COVID19 pandemic, they have since bounced back. The staff at MJBiz fortunately, will remain. The next MJBizCon will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 15-18, 2022.
With over 190 dispensaries in the state, none are owned by a Black entrepreneur. That is until Adrienne Scales-Williams launches Luxury Leaf. The dispensary will be located at 1463 S. Vandeventer Avenue in The Grove neighborhood.
