HIGHLY RELEVANT

While still in the early stages of development, there’s some encouraging news out of Washington. A Republican bill, interestingly, has been introduced to legalize marijuana at the federal level — two sources who have seen the bill say it includes lighter regulation, lower taxes, and more promising benefits. It is expected to be unveiled in full soon.

Especially promising is a report indicating that this bill would lead to marijuana being treated more like alcohol. The draft of the bill is still expected to undergo some changes, but these early reports contain plenty of exciting details already.

Additionally, Biden recently signed an infrastructure bill which, while not solely focused on mairjuana research, includes provisions on allowing researchers to study marijuana purchased at state-legal dispensaries, rather than just government-grown cannabis. All in all, the direction is positive and less stigmatized at the Hill.

STATE OF MIND

New York has been making great strides in recent times when it comes to marijuana laws. Gone are the days where you will need to quit smoking and detox before a job interview. Cultural sentiments have shifted against this practice, which now reads as outwardly discriminatory in many cases. Naturally, employers still have the right to prohibit marijuana usage and possession during work hours, but time off the clock is less regulated under this law.

Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as delta-8 THC, is a psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis plants, and just recently became legal again in Texas — for now. The Lonestar State tends to operate on its own wavelength in many cases, and while Delta 8 has been once again removed from the controlled substances list for now, there’s no telling how long this will last. Fortunately, the Texas Department of Public Safety hasn’t made any arrests.

420-friendly destinations have risen in popularity as legalization continues to increase. For many traveling cannabis consumers, Amsterdam is a go-to destination. With Amsterdam cracking down on the number of coffee shops, tourists seek the next spot to visit.

What happens if too much weed is grown in Seattle? It gets burned. However, not in the way consumers would like. Three farms in Walla Walla County, Washington have about 13,000 pounds of weed. This amount of cannabis is valued at about 3 million.

Founded in 2010 by Brett Heyman, Edie Parker began as a chic acrylic handbag and home decor line. The brand has since expanded to include a cannabis accessory line named Flower by Edie Parker.

WEED WARRIOR

With Canada being a popular cannabis destination, it is no surprise that Drake has found his way into the industry. The Canadian rapper can now add co-owner, investor, and strategic adviser of Bullrider to his resume. Bullrider is a cannabis brand owned by Noah “40” Shebib, co-founder of Drake’s record label, October’s Very Own. Battling multiple sclerosis for decades, 40 credits Afghani Bullrider as the weed strain that has helped him manage the disease. The Bullrider flagship store opened in October 2021 in Brampton, Ontario.
